In memoriam: Gerald “Zeke” Strid

Founding Principal

Character is doing the right thing when nobody’s looking

A Tribute To Our Founder

We’d like to pay tribute to our founder, Gerald David Strid—known as Zeke to his family, friends, and clients—who passed away on May 27, 2023. He was a man who lived life with passion, faith, compassion, humor, and humility, and we are grateful he was a part of our lives.

“Always know the difference between right and wrong and never compromise on your values.”

Zeke started his 45-year career in finance in 1970, working for multiple brokerage firms, including Paine Webber; Shearson, Loeb & Rhoades; and Babbit, Myers & Company before joining Merrill Lynch in 1984. During his time at Merrill Lynch, he created a legendary reputation and legacy through his invention of College Builder—a successful program that helped clients invest in savings for their children’s college education. While Zeke spent the majority of his career as a “Circle of Excellence” member, he took the most pride in forming one of the first father-son advisory teams when Erik joined the company. Together, they traveled, met with clients, and trained others across the firm.

One of Zeke’s greatest joys was having the opportunity in 2003 to partner with both of his sons. Zeke and Erik left Merrill Lynch and, together with Paul, formed Strid Wealth Management Group, which later evolved into Concentus Wealth Advisors.

As Concentus approaches its 10th anniversary, the values Zeke held dear when founding the firm still hold true today. These include giving everything you have to your clients, never backing down on your promises, and treating your word as your bond. Zeke ran his business like he ran his life—with honesty and integrity. He believed once you sell your integrity, you have nothing left. Following this approach, Zeke cultivated a business in which half of his clients were with him for 25 years. He cherished every one of you.

“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear
and the blind can see.”

Helping those less fortunate was a non-negotiable for Zeke. His genuine love for others, along with the opportunity to become fully absorbed in someone’s well-being, brought him great personal joy.

Zeke worked for seven years directly with the homeless of Philadelphia through the non-profit group, Project H.O.M.E. He was known to routinely step off a commuter train without socks, offering a simple, matter-of-fact explanation that someone needed them more than he did. Zeke’s tireless advocacy helped Project H.O.M.E raise critical public awareness, funding, and support.

In 2007, Zeke was named Main Line Times Man of the Year and awarded the highest honor by the Villanova University Alumni Association—The St. Thomas of Villanova Medal. Both awards recognized his exceptional and continued commitment to service and community.

If this is the first time you’re learning about some of these prestigious honors, it’s because Zeke lived by the creed that “character is doing the right thing when nobody else is looking.” He did not seek the spotlight or fanfare. Being selfless was at his core.

Our leader — A champion in the game of life.

Gerald David Strid was many things to many people. A brother and son, raised in CT. A Villanovan with great pride. A college football player. An accomplished career and financial leader. A dedicated family man to his wife, Krissy, and 5 children. Advocate for the homeless. A gardener. Cherished Pop-Pop to 14 grandchildren. And an amazing hugger.

Those who knew Zeke will never forget what he taught them or how he made them feel. He was loved by all, and like a hug, he squeezed every ounce of breath and beauty out of life. In his honor, we will hold tight to what mattered most to him.

God bless Zeke.
